L&T gets Rs 1,610 crore BOP order from Visa Power

Visa Power Ltd has placed a large order with L&T for the execution of balance of plant package for their 2×600 Mw power plant being set up in Chhattisgarh. The value of contract is Rs 1,610 crore and will be commissioned within 29 – 32 months. Under the contract, to be executed on EPC basis, L&T will design, engineer, supply, erect and commission complete BOP package and also provide all associated services. The scope of work includes BTG and BOP civil, structural and architectural works; coal and ash handling plants, chimney, induced draft cooling towers, switchyard and BOP electrical, ash pond and water reservoir.
The order follows a recent order for Rs 6,500 crores from Jaiprakash Power Ventures Ltd for 3×660 Mw supercritical boiler–steam turbine generator package for the Karchana power project.
The company is currently executing similar sub-critical BOP contracts and several large supercritical EPC/BTG projects. For the supercritical segment L&T has established joint venture companies with Mitsubishi Heavy Engineering for manufacture of supercritical boilers and turbines. In the super-critical segment, L&T has also set up manufacturing capabilities in Hazira for several crucial equipment and components including high pressure piping, coal pulverizers, ESPs and heavy forgings.
